Happy Holidays!  Here our some tips and ideas to get you inspired to decorate for the holidays.  We have vignettes at dahlia which shows you the latest trends in decorating.  We'd love to inspire you to do it yourself, or we can create a custom look for you!

Holiday Centerpiece and Mantel Decorating Tips

Think layers and textures: Start with larger pieces first, such as candlesticks or glitter trees, then keep adding elements, going from bigger to smaller.

Add fresh greenery or flowers: You can have artificial garland or fruit, but be sure to add pieces of fresh greenery or flowers that can be easily switched out. Fresh greenery and flowers adds fragrance and softness for the “cozy” holiday feel.

Try to achieve asymmetrical balance: This takes the worry out of making sure you have two of everything and also creates visual interest.

Unless you’re going for an ultra-modern look, the organic look is in. Ultra-modern is very sleek, simplified: a table with all low cut roses in square glass vases, think New York City. Organic is more natural, “viney”. You might try to add things from your yard!

Add candlelight: Candlelight adds warmth and romance. There are now flameless, battery-operated candles that flicker. It gives you the look without the worry of an open flame.

Include 5 yards of trendy, quality ribbon: Every year you can update your look with thick, wide, French-wired ribbon. Weave that throughout the other objects on the mantel.

For centerpieces, your centerpiece should echo the shape of the table, and be visually interesting from all sides!

For mantels, use bricks or bags of sand covered in a gorgeous fabric to use as weights, to secure a heavy garland, or to hang ornaments from (away from flame, though!). If you don’t intend to use the fireplace, add something there that ties in with your mantel.

Award Winning Christmas Tree Decorating Tips

Lights: Your lights should weave in and out of the tree for a dimensional glow. You’ll want at least 1, 100-light strand per foot of tree. Tuck some of your ornaments deeper inside the tree, as well as hanging off the tips. Do the squint test: Stand back and squint at the tree, you’ll be able to see any dark spots!

Ornaments (or focal points): For a unified look, choose no more than 3—5 types of ornaments or items. You’ll need about 2-3 dozen of each (depending upon the size of the ornaments) to create a themed look.Examples: birds, permanent amaryllis, groupings of berries, stars, pinecones, hydrangea. It looks great to have different sizes of the same item: maybe a few oversized stars, then go back and add little stars as accents!

Focal Point: Tree toppers are a focal point, but maybe be more creative: have a basket tucked into the tree with ribbons and textures spilling out of it, all the way to the floor!

Implied motion: Add sprigs of sequined pics, feathers, or “ting-ting” to bring the tree to life!

Base of Tree: Be creative in covering the base of the tree, which, also, is gives the tree weight. Cover packages with moss, use a contrasting colored fabric, or add more lights (in a contrasting color) under gauzy fabric.

Ribbon: You can simply update your past look with adding a new trend-setting ribbon! You’ll need 3 yards for a topper, and 3 yards per streamer. Weave the ribbon in and out of the tree for a soft look. I like to use one heavy ribbon mixed with a sheer ribbon or iridescent netting.
